I cannot say enough good things about the Cobb Access Port and the MAPerformance OTS map is a fantastic bonus! The access port for my ‘18 WRX increased the driveability significantly by smoothing our the throttle inputs and stock fuel mapping. Both the Cobb maps and the MAPerformance OTS maps offer significant performance gains and are well done.
The maps struggled with my local fuel options 92 and atmosphere (reputable local tuner) in Oregon and I did experience periodic knock events with both maps in heat soak and during tip in. I had no major issues or damage to my car in 6 months in the stage 1 maps and would recommend them. It is all smiles and is fantastic for monitoring engine events. I have since been pro tuned and continue to enjoy the AP. MAP Limited Lifetime Warranty 1.) All MAPerformance in-house fabricated parts include a Limited Lifetime Warranty for the Original Purchaser. I've seen a couple of threads mention that the Cobb A/P overwrites the ECU serial number. My service manager said they know if you've used the A/P even if the boost etc numbers don't indicate it since the ECU serial number has been modified. My question is why is this the case?
How come the original serial number can't be preserved and restored on an A/P uninstall? What is the technical reason for this? I don't write over the ECU Serial ID I over write the Flash ID. I've done this to try and prevent the Consult III from flashing over an installed AccessPORT. When you uninstall the AccessPORT the Flash ID goes back to the stock ID and the only way that they can tell that the car have been modified is by checking with the black box.

Is the flash id unique to the ECU? In other words, do I have to back up the stock map on my ECU to ensure I restore the original flash id? Ok, so all this talk about ECU serial number being modded is BS?It's not total BS, when they flash the car they will see that ID.
The ID is used to let them know what current flash is on the car, and then they can tell if it needs to be updated. There are other ID's that are used for diagnostics, and I didn't touch those ID's, because I want to interfere with the Consult III. I just wanted to try and lock out flashing. Is the flash id unique to the ECU?
In other words, do I have to back up the stock map on my ECU to ensure I restore the original flash id?The flash ID is not unique, it is just a long version of the ECU firmware ID, when you uninstall the AccessPORT the flash ID goes back to the stock flash ID. Therefore, if the A/P is uninstalled and the engine is on for a long enough time it is possible that Nissan would not be able to detect that the A/P was ever installed. I have some experience here. I uninstalled AP when my tranny failed. Nissan was able to detect mods due to boost levels and changes in what they refered to as serial numbers (maybe 'ID Numbers' in reality)- but they saw it. I did not try to do the 24 hour trickle charger thing (or whatever). When they asked if car had ECU mod, I was honest. They replaced tranny under warranty because they agreed the AP had nothing to do with the failure.Chris That's awesome that the dealer was willing to work with you!

They replaced tranny under warranty because they agreed the AP had nothing to do with the failure. That's the way it should be, warranty denied must be because the failure is attributable to the mod. They can't unilaterally deny a claim without justification. Off topic.I have no worries using an A/P. I do worry about the WR35TM though and am struggling implementing it (I have a 10litre pail sitting in my garage).
I think Nissan will not be so accommodating if you use WR35TM and you encounter an issue with the GR6. Hopefully we'll be able to source GR6 parts soon, until such time it's a 20K gamble. Hopefully we'll be able to source GR6 parts soon, until such time it's a 20K gamble. I'm struggling with this one also. Damn frustrating that Nissan won't admit that their fluid is inadequate at lubricating the GR6 at high temperatures, (track or hard rallying) Reviews are sure positive on the WR35TM though, including some first hand experience with it myself when I changed a fellow nagtroc members fluid and saw results for myself in terms of quietness and smoothness of the trans compared to the stock fluid. I'm still gonna change it to WR35TM because I feel like the stock fluid will cause problems down the road.Worth the risk, I hope.
